Nienke is CGA’s global lead on Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA). She is currently based in South Sudan, where she is leading on several CVA programmes, including the PlanCard project; working with system developers to design an electronic voucher system for Cash Transfer programming in Torit, South Sudan. Other recent projects include working as a Cash Advisor on a feasibility study for UNICEF HQ; looking into the options for humanitarian cash transfer Management Information Systems (MIS). At present, Nienke is the Cash Lead on a study for the World Bank on strengthening social protection systems in South Sudan, focusing on Grievance Redress Mechanisms.
Nienke is also part of the team working on Mobile Money in South Sudan, liaising with the Central Bank of South Sudan and other government agencies to support the launch of Mobile Money across the country.
Before joining CGA in 2017, Nienke worked at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a policy officer in the Africa department. She has also worked for several local NGOs in Uganda, and conducted qualitative field research on the plans to close Dadaab refugee camp, in Kenya. Nienke holds a BA in International studies from Leiden University, specialising in sub-Saharan Africa and an MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from Utrecht University.
